NEXT-GEN WORKSHOP (ÖZYEĞİN)
“NEXT-GEN: Next Generation” project kick off took place at Özyeğin University’s Çekmeköy campus between the 2nd and 6th September 2019. The project aims to train energy efficiency leaders at the local level and puts Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the core of its development. It received grants by the Transformers Fund of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
Approximately 60 participants including the representatives of the Ministry of National Education of Vocational and Technical Education General Directorate’s Social Partners and Projects Department, selected Energy Managers from pilot provinces’ municipalities (T. C. Adıyaman Municipality, T. C. Batman Municipality, T. C. Diyarbakır Municipality, T. C. Gaziantep Municipality, T. C. Kahramanmaraş Municipality, T. C. Kilis Municipality, T. C. Mardin Büyükşehir Municipality, T. C. Siirt Municipality, T. C. Şanlıurfa Büyükşehir Municipality, T. C. Şırnak Municipality), and instructors of the pilot vocational and Technical High Schools (Adıyaman Mimar Sinan Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Cumhuriyet Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Diyarbakır Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Şehit İdari Ataşe Galip Özmen Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Kilis Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Mardin Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, İMKB Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Karaköprü Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Cizre Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School) attended the Energy Efficiency Workshop organized by CEEE.
The workshop content was specifically developed by Özyeğin University faculty members, CEEE researchers, and leading names in the sector in order to involve energy efficiency notion in the Vocational and Technical High Schools’ curriculum and boost the potential of energy efficiency units in the municipalities.
In this context, following domains and subjects are shared with the participants: Energy Efficiency and Its Strategies, Applications to Increase Energy Efficiency, Turkey and the World Economy Within the Energy and Sustainability Concepts, Globalization, Migration and Development, Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Sources, Energy Efficiency Action Plan, Energy Efficiency Methods in the State Institutions and Organizations and Residential buildings, Environmental Consciousness and Waste Management, Energy Audit, Energy Management Systems, Energy Law.
Beside the theoretical studies, site visits were organized. Ozyegin University SCOLA Building, which is one of the leading energy-focused projects within the scope of EU-FP7 fund, and Energy Distribution Center located at the University campus were visited. In addition, Şişecam Campus in Tuzla, was visited with all participants during the Workshop.
In the scope of the 14-month-long NEXT-GEN project, which was started on the 1st of July 2019, CEEE plans to prepare the energy efficiency roadmap with the decision-makers in Tunisia, Mauritania, and Niger.
